The Archaeological Museum of Sienese Chianti
CULTURE / HISTORY
The Museo del Chianti Senese is located in the medieval center of Castellina, occupying a building dominated by a tower built by the Florentines in the 15th century to defend themselves against the Republic of Siena.
The museum tells the ancient history of Chianti through archaeological materials and data collected in the territories of the four municipalities on the Sienese side: Castellina, Gaiole, Radda, and Castelnuovo Berardenga.
The museum is dedicated to the Etruscan history of the Chianti region, between the formation of Etruscan civilization and its complete integration into the Roman world.
The visit to the museum includes the fortress, a bulwark of the Florentine Republic in the centuries-long conflict with Siena. From the tower, visitors can enjoy a breathtaking view of the town and the Chianti mountains stretching out to the distant horizon.
The museum is accessible to people with mobility issues, thanks to an elevator that provides access to the upper floor.
