he Black Rooster is the symbol of Chianti throughout the world.

Symbol of the League of Chianti in the Middle Ages, the legend that established the border between Florentine and Sienese Chianti in the territory of Castellina in Chianti is linked to this figure.

Depicted in the Allegory of Chianti painted by Giorgio Vasari in the Salone dei Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, the Black Rooster was chosen in 1924 as the symbol of the Chianti Classico Consortium and a rooster also stands out in the centre of the logo of the Tourist Area.

The strong bond with this land explains why each of the seven Chianti municipalities now hosts a fibreglass statue of the Black Rooster. The works were placed in 2016 by the Chianti Classico Consortium, on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the delimitation of the boundaries of the wine district by the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo III

Taking a picture with one of them in the background is now a habit for many tourists.

However, not everyone knows the exact location of all the statues. In fact, some statues are clearly visible within the villages while others need to be looked for more carefully.
